Week 03 · Grappling Hook Platformer Study


The Study

Toy Story 2 on GBA had this perfect little lasso swing mechanic that I never forgot. Woody would throw his pull string and swing across gaps—simple but satisfying. I wanted to recreate that feeling.

I ran out of time halfway throuhg so thelasso's a bit jank. was Is fun to make an infinite regardless.

Built in Godot 4.6 as an infinite runner with a lasso grappling system. Click to throw your lasso, swing from rings, and see how far you can go before falling into the void.


Controls

keyboard

  • A/D or Arrows — Move left/right, control swing direction
  • W or Space — Jump
  • Left Click — Throw/release lasso

Controller

  • left joypad — Move left/right, control swing direction
  • A— Jump
  • Right bumper— Throw/release lasso



Inspiration

Toy Story 2 for the GBA. That little platformer had no business being as good as it was. The lasso mechanic stuck with me for decades—simple physics, satisfying arcs, perfect risk/reward.
